SMOKE ALARM INSTALLATION TOOWOOMBA | QLD 2027 REQUIREMENTS

All existing private homes, townhouses, units and manufactured homes in Queensland need interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms by 1 January 2027. Requirements already apply earlier for new or substantially renovated homes, and when selling or leasing, with a phased rollout since 2017/2022.

QLD requirements at a glance:

• Photoelectric alarms — not ionisation sensors.

• Interconnected: when one sounds, they all sound.

• Comply with AS 3786-2014.

• Install in every bedroom, required common areas and on every storey.

• From 1 January 2027, existing alarms must be replaced with hardwired photoelectric alarms — a licensed electrician is required.
